Condom Questions

What condom size do I need?

Measure your girth (circumference) — that's the most important measurement. Under 4.7" = snug fit. 4.7"–5.1" = standard. 5.1"–5.5" = large. Over 5.5" = XL. See our full condom size chart for detailed guidance.

Are thin condoms less safe?

No. Ultra-thin condoms go through the same FDA testing as standard condoms and are equally effective at preventing pregnancy and STI transmission. Thinness affects sensation, not safety.

Can I use a condom with a sex toy?

Yes — putting a condom on a toy makes cleanup easier and is especially recommended for anal use or sharing toys between partners. Make sure the toy is compatible with the condom material.

Do flavored condoms protect against STIs?

Yes, if they're FDA-approved — flavoring doesn't reduce protection. However, flavored condoms should be used for oral sex only. The sugars in flavored condoms can disrupt vaginal pH and may cause infections if used for penetrative sex.

How long do condoms last?

Most latex condoms are good for 3–5 years from the manufacture date. Non-latex and specialty condoms may have shorter shelf lives — always check the expiration date on the wrapper.

Does a condom make sex less enjoyable?

If it does, you're probably wearing the wrong size or type. The right-fitting condom in the right style should barely be noticeable. Try an ultra-thin condom in your correct size and use plenty of lube.

Lube Questions

Can I use any lube with a condom?

No. Oil-based lubes (including coconut oil, Vaseline, and baby oil) degrade latex and polyisoprene condoms and should never be used with them. Water-based and silicone-based lubes are safe with all condoms. See our lube types guide for a full compatibility chart.

Should I use lube even if I'm not having anal sex?

Yes. Lube makes sex more comfortable and pleasurable for both partners and reduces the risk of condom breakage from friction. Condoms come with minimal pre-applied lube — it's almost never enough for the full duration of sex.

Is lube safe to use with sex toys?

Water-based lube is safe with all toys. Silicone lube should not be used with silicone toys — it degrades the surface. Oil-based lube should not be used with rubber or latex toys.
