Guide to Nuru Massage: How to Give (and Get) an Erotic Slippery Massage

14 minute read

Nuru Massage might sound like just another option on the menu at the local spa.

But nuru is something much, much more special than your average Swedish or Thai rub down.

Nuru massage is an ancient Japanese erotic massage involving ultra-slippery oils and full body-to-body contact.

When we say full body, we mean full body.

Although nuru massage does not involve penetration or swapping fluids, many consider it to be better than sex.

Others find it to be the perfect foreplay before a romp in the hay.

What is the ancient art of nuru massage?

And how do you unlock its secrets to relieve stress, reignite your sex life, and invigorate your entire body?

In this guide to nuru massage, you’ll learn:

👉 What is nuru massage?

👉 What you’ll need for a night of nuru

👉 How to give a nuru massage

👉 Where to get a nuru massage

👉 Nuru massage safety

What is Nuru Massage?

Nuru massage, also known as slippery massage, is a full-body erotic massage that involves two lubed-up, naked bodies slipping and sliding all over each other.

A proper nuru nuru massage will evoke the same sensations as sex—except over your entire body.

The key ingredient of nuru is lube—and lots of it.

Traditionally, it uses a colorless, odorless, and tasteless seaweed lubricant, but you can use any lube you want if you’re giving a nuru massage at home.

The person receiving a nuru massage starts by lying on their back and simply relaxing.

The person giving the massage straddles them and uses their entire body to rub and caress every inch of the receiving partner’s body.

This involves touching the breasts, butt, genitals (without penetration)—you name it.

The person giving the massage will also rub their sexy parts all over their partner, teasing and tantalizing.

As you can imagine, nuru massage gets you feeling pretty hot and heavy. But you should resist jumping into sex too quickly.

Nuru is meant to be a slow and sensual experience that simultaneously excites and relaxes.

What You’ll Need for a Nuru Massage

All you really need to give a good nuru massage is lots of lube.

The word “nuru” comes from the Japanese word for “slippery,” and without copious amounts of lube, nuru just doesn’t have the right effect.

Traditional nuru lube is hard to find outside of Japan.

This seaweed-based concoction has a particular slickness to it which is worth experiencing at some point, but it’s not strictly necessary.

You can use any type of lube for nuru as long as you have enough of it.

Nuru note: If you use traditional nuru massage lube, make sure to get a different lube for sex. Nuru lube is body safe, but it’s not meant to be used for penetrative sex.

Traditional nuru massages require 1 liter of lube per massage. That’s… a lot of lube.

You don’t have to use that much, but you’ll probably end up using at least 12 oz of lube per sesh. For that reason, we recommend a water-based lube.

Water-based lube is easy to clean and affordable, so you can lube up to your heart’s content.

These are some of the best water-based lubes for nuru massage:

👉 Sliquid H2O Water-based Lubricant

Nuru massage lube

👉 Wet Original Water-Based Gel

👉 Fuck Water “Clear”

Water-based lube is great, but other lubes, like oil-based lubricants, are a bit slicker and last longer.

If you choose to use massage oil or oil-based lube, we recommend doing nuru on an air mattress or getting rubber sheets because they can be tough to get out of fabrics and wash off of surfaces.

Try some of these oil-based lubes for nuru massage:

👉 Spunk Natural Coconut and Avocado Oil Lubricant

👉 Boy Butter Original Lubricant with Coconut Oil

Nuru note: Oil-based lube and massage oil are not safe to use with latex condoms. If you’re using oil for nuru massage and intend to have sex after, use a non-latex condom such as Skyn Elite.

Want to give a legit nuru massage? Condomana sells lube in large bulk sizes for huge discounts, so you can use the proper amount of lube for each nuru session without breaking the bank.

Try some of these large-volume lube products:

👉 Gun Oil H2O 32 oz

👉 Boy Butter 16 oz Tub

👉 Swiss Navy Water-based Lubricant 16 oz

What about Silicone Lube?

Silicone lube is amazing for sex, but it can irritate the skin and cause breakouts if used over the entire body.

Silicone lube is also the most expensive lube you can buy, so doing nuru with silicone lube would also get pretty expensive.

For these reasons, we don’t recommend using silicone lube for nuru massage.

However, if you and your partner don’t have sensitive skin, you may want to try hybrid lube for nuru massage (a blend of water-based lube and silicone lube).

It’s easier on the skin and easier to clean than silicone. Plus, it’s much slicker than standard water-based lube.

Need anything else for Nuru massage?

To give a proper nuru massage, all you need is lube and an appropriate surface.

However, you may want to incorporate a few more things into your nuru session to spice things up.

👉 Blindfold: Seeing a naked body slip and slide all over you is half the fun, in our opinion. But using a blindfold to heighten physical sensation is also a must-try. Only the receiving partner should wear a blindfold, FYI.

👉 Candles: Candles are great for setting the mood during any massage. And erotic drip candles are even better. Incorporate dripping hot wax into your nuru massage to turn up the heat to new levels. If hot wax is a bit too much, try a warming/tingling lube instead.

👉 Condoms: If you’re exchanging nuru massages with a significant other, you’re probably going to sex each other eventually. Nuru makes for excellent foreplay, so keep some condoms handy.

How to Give a Nuru Massage

You don’t have to be a licensed massage therapist to give an excellent nuru massage.

As long as you use your entire body and move slowly and sensually, you’ll do great.

Follow these steps to give a nuru massage at home that will drive your partner wild.

👉 Prep Your Space

Nuru massage isn’t something you can do every day. It takes time, money, and preparation to do it right.

So, make the most of it by carefully preparing your massage space to be as sexy and relaxing as possible.

Play some calming music, light some candles, and burn some incense to entice all of the senses.

You may just be in your bedroom, but try to make your space feel as if it’s miles away from the stresses of everyday life.

Basically, you want to turn your room into an erotic oasis.

👉 Choose Your Lube

Remember, lube is the most important part of nuru massage, so choose wisely.

Any of the lubricants we recommended above are great pics. We also love using organic lube for nuru massage.

It’s made with natural ingredients, much like the traditional seaweed lube used in Japanese nuru parlors.

We don’t recommend using soap for a nuru massage, as it can dry the skin and irritate penises and vulvas. Save the soap for the shower.

👉 Get Comfy

We know you’re excited, but don’t jump into the nuru massage too quickly.

Preparing your mind and body for nuru is just as important as preparing your room.

You need to create some space between your daily life (such as work, kids, and errands) and your nuru massage time.

Some ways to do this include meditation, yoga, having a glass of wine, having a cuddle, or talking about your nuru massage beforehand. Whatever you do, make sure that you do it with your partner.

We don’t recommend using screens during this time. This is your chance to disconnect from daily life and reconnect with a partner.

Make it all about you, and forget about the rest of the world.

👉 Shower Together

Taking a shower with your partner is an important part of nuru. Not only will it help get you in the mood, but it’ll make your skin wet and ready for lube.

Lube will feel slicker on wet or damp skin, so don’t towel off completely before the massage.

👉 Lube Up

Your partner (the person receiving the massage) should now lie face down on the bed. Take your lube of choice and start rubbing it all over your body.

Next, cover your partner’s back, arms, neck, and legs with lube.

Don’t be shy. As the massaging partner, your entire body should be covered in lube. If you’re only partially covered, the massage won’t feel very good.

👉 Nuru Time

Finally, it’s time for the nuru massage to begin. Start by straddling your partner and giving them a sensual back rub with your hands.

Next. try some of these nuru massage techniques.

👉 Body glide: Place your entire chest on your partner's back and your hands on their shoulders. Slowly move back and forth, gliding your body against theirs.

👉 Butt massage: Turn around and face your partner’s feet. Glide your butt over their back, butt, and hamstrings.

👉 Back-to-back: Lie down on your back on top of your partner, and rub your entire body on theirs.

👉 Leg lock: Facing your partner's feet, straddle their butt, so your thighs are touching their thighs. Use your lower legs to rub your partner's thighs (one at a time) while using your hands to massage their calves.

Don’t forget to throw some handwork in there too. Massage your partner's neck, butt, and legs with your hands, forearms, and elbows.

As a general rule, you should massage soft tissue with hard bone (such as your forearm or elbow) and hard areas such as the back with soft tissue, like breasts or hands.

👉 Turn Your Partner Over

After you’ve used the above techniques a few times, ask your partner to turn over—this is when things get really hot. Try these full frontal nuru techniques:

👉 Front body glide: Same as the previous body glide, but now you’re straddling your partner’s waist and rubbing your chest against theirs.

Try moving all the way down their body and do some very light teasing of their naughty bits. Use your hands to caress their chest and neck as well.

👉 Breast massage: If you’re massaging someone with breasts, you can apply light pressure to the sides of the breasts, pushing them together and then letting them return to their resting state.

You can also rub the breasts slowly and sensually but avoid excessive nipple contact.

👉 Inner thigh tango: Give some attention to the inner thighs with your hands, arms, and shoulders, but avoid making too much contact with the genitals. This move is meant to tease.

👉 Close encounter: Move your face close to your partner’s face, neck, and groin. Let them feel the heat of your breath and then pull away, continuing the massage.

You don’t have to use all of the techniques above during your nuru massage. In fact, you can move any way you want. Nuru is pretty open-ended.

The only important part is using your entire body (most notably, your sexy parts like breasts, butt, and groin) to massage your partner’s entire body. Do it in whatever way feels most natural to you!

👉 Take it Slow

If it’s your first time doing nuru, you’re probably going to get pretty excited. But don’t let your inner animal take over.

Remember that the goal of nuru isn’t to have sex ASAP. It’s to relax and coax your partner’s body into a state of slippery sensual bliss.

All of your movements should be SLOW, whether you’re massaging, gliding, or changing positions. You should avoid speaking entirely—words are not as sensual as touch.

And the massage should last at least 30 minutes. Give your partner the massage they deserve!

👉 Don’t Forget Aftercare

What comes after a nuru massage? Whether it’s sex, a happy ending, or a cuddle, remember to give your partner plenty of affection before returning to the real world.

You’ll both probably feel relaxed and satisfied, so take this opportunity to hold each other. You may want to chat about the massage or exchange sexy compliments. Or, you might want to take a short nap.

Don’t stay in bed too long, though, because that lube will start to feel icky after a while. Finish your nuru session by hopping back in the shower and getting nice and clean.

Warning: Be very careful in the shower and bathroom. All of the lube on your body will pose a fall risk.

Where to Get a Nuru Massage

Because Nuru massage involves touching sexy parts like breasts and genitals, you won’t find it available at most massage businesses in the US.

Any type of massage that involves sexual stimulation is illegal. However, you can get an authentic nuru massage in Nevada, where prostitution and erotic massage are legal.

Worldwide, nuru massage is normally available at nuru-specific massage parlors, erotic massage parlors, and brothels. Here are a few places you can go for a nuru massage:

👉 Canada: As long as no fluids are exchanged, erotic massage is legal in parts of Canada, such as Montreal.

👉 Japan: Prostitution is illegal in Japan, but Tokyo’s Soapland bars have found a loophole by offering bathing services and nuru massage. Be warned, sex is included in the price.

👉 Germany: Prostitution and erotic massage are legal in Germany, so you can find legit nuru massage parlors in places like Berlin.

👉 Czech Republic: Prague is home to many nuru massage parlors. Prostitution and erotic massage are legal in the Czech Republic.

👉 Thailand: Authentic Japanese nuru massage parlors can be found in Bangkok, where sex is typically included in the service.

If you’re not into sex tourism or prostitution, we recommend perfecting the art of nuru massage at home with a partner.

Is Nuru Massage Safe?

Yes, nuru massage is very safe. Nuru involves nothing but your bodies and lube.

As long as you use sex lube or massage oil intended for use on the skin, you will be fine. However, this only applies when you’re exchanging nuru massages with a trusted partner.

If you’re getting a professional nuru massage from an unknown masseuse or masseur, there can be a slight risk of STI transmission, especially if sex is involved.

You may want to wear a bikini bottom or speedo-style swimming suit when getting a pro nuru massage to protect your genital area from fluids or skin-on-skin contact (STIs like herpes can spread from contact with the skin).

And, of course, always wear a condom when having oral, anal, or vaginal sex with a casual partner.

Are You Ready to Nuru?

Erotic massage is one of the most relaxing and tantalizing experiences you can have.

And it’s a great activity for couples who want to get closer physically and emotionally. Nuru massage is the original erotic massage, and in our opinion, it’s the best one.

Nuru incorporates your entire body into the massage and gives plenty of attention to all the parts of your partner that you love the most.

So. when are you going to try your first nuru massage?

All you need is lube to get started. And maybe a sex stool if you plan to use silicone or oil-based lube.

That’s it! Find a great nuru lube above, or browse more lube here. Just make sure you get enough. You’ll need at least 12 oz for one massage.
