Frequently asked questions
Are these safe for beginners?
Yes, with proper preparation. Bondage rope (especially silky-soft cotton like Shibari) is the most beginner-friendly — it can be untied quickly if needed, doesn't pinch like metal cuffs, and is forgiving of mistakes. Always agree on a safeword before play, and never tie someone in a way that restricts breathing or blood flow.
What's a safeword?
A pre-agreed word that immediately stops play. The classic system uses traffic-light terminology: green means continue, yellow means slow down or check in, red means stop now. The word "stop" is sometimes too ambiguous in roleplay contexts — pick something unambiguous.
Are restraints quick to release?
Quality bondage products have quick-release features specifically for safety. Velcro cuffs unfasten instantly. Rope can be cut with safety scissors (keep a pair nearby). Avoid metal handcuffs without quick-release for serious bondage play — they require keys and can fail.
