Okamoto 004 Condoms
"004" refers to 0.04mm thickness — the defining spec of Okamoto's flagship ultra-thin condom. Made in Japan using Okamoto's proprietary latex engineering, the 004 condom achieves a thickness most other manufacturers can't replicate while maintaining FDA-cleared safety standards. It's expensive, but it's also among the thinnest mass-produced latex condoms ever made.
The Okamoto 004 product
- Okamoto 004 Zero Zero Four Ultra Thin — $32.99. Premium pricing reflects premium engineering. Top-selling Okamoto product (over $5K in 12-month sales).
Why 0.04mm matters
- Standard latex condoms are typically 0.06–0.08mm thick.
- Most "ultra-thin" condoms are 0.05–0.06mm thick — meaningfully thinner than standard but not as extreme as 004.
- Okamoto 004 is 0.04mm — about half the thickness of standard latex.
- The result: dramatically more sensation transfer, body-temperature transfer, and "barely there" feel — while passing the same FDA safety standards as thicker condoms.
What you trade for thinness
- Higher cost. $32.99 for a box vs. $9-12 for standard premium condoms. The thin-latex manufacturing is more difficult and lower-yield.
- Slightly more careful handling. Thin latex is more sensitive to nail catches and stress concentrations during application. Take an extra second to put it on.
- Same protection profile. 0.04mm meets FDA standards. The protection is equivalent — only the sensation is dramatically different.
