Condom Sizes: Everything You Need to Know

Chances are, you wear the wrong size condom

Yes, YOU.

Studies have found that over 80% of guys wear the wrong size, which can impact their performance and safety in the sack.

Wearing the wrong size condom is like wearing shoes that don’t fit. They make your sex game WEAK, and they leave you vulnerable to pregnancy and STIs.

The good news is, finding the right condom size can instantly boost your pleasure, safety, and performance.

But it isn’t always easy. Condom sizing can be confusing, and most guys don’t even know how to measure their members.

It is 100% worth finding your proper size, and this article will tell you how to do it.

By the time you finish reading, you’ll know how to measure your penis, find the right corresponding condom size, and choose the perfect condom for your rod.

What Every Penis-haver Needs to Know about Condoms: SIZE MATTERS

It’s not the size of the boat, it’s the motion of the ocean, right? When it comes to the heat you’re packing, that’s true.

But if we’re talking condoms, size definitely matters.

The risks of wearing the wrong size condom are REAL. Condoms provide 98% effective protection against STI transmission and pregnancy…But ONLY if you wear the right size.

Wearing the wrong size will reduce your chances of a condom mishap from about 1 in 50 to… 1 in 7.

That’s a massive increase in risk. It’s just not worth it.

Wearing the wrong size has more unpleasant consequences:

  • It will reduce sensation for you and your partner, making sex less pleasurable.

  • It will interrupt the steamiest moments by slipping off or bunching up, making you go flaccid. What a buzz kill.

  • Wearing a condom that’s too small can be painful and reduce circulation where you need it most.

  • It will make your partner think you’re clueless in bed. It’s not a good look!

So, don’t just grab any random box of condoms at the store. Find your size and start wearing condoms that improve your PERFORMANCE and SAFETY in bed.

How to Find Your Condom Size

You’re going to learn how to find the perfect condom in your size in three easy steps.

Step 1: Measure Your Penis

To find your shoe size, you measure your foot. To find your condom size, you’ve got to unzip and whip out the measuring tape.

To properly measure your penis, you’ll need to record its length and girth.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. First, you have to get an erection. Watch some adult entertainment to get in the mood, or better yet, ask your partner for a hand.

  2. To measure length: Use a ruler or measuring tape to measure from the base of the penis to the tip. Remember to measure from where the shaft begins at the pubic bone. You might have to press into the skin a bit to get an accurate measure.

  3. To measure the girth: Wrap a measuring tape around the thickest part of your shaft. If you don’t have a measuring tape, you can use a piece of string and measure it with a ruler.

Write down your measurements. It’s time to do a bit of condom math.

Step 2: Find Your Condom Size

Now that you know your penis size, you can use it to find your condom size.

However, condoms aren’t sized according to penis size—they follow their own measurement system.

Condoms are measured by lie-flat length and width, meaning the condom is fully unrolled and laid flat before measuring. This gives the length from tip to base and the width across one side, not the circumference.

The length is typically measured in inches, and the width in millimeters.

Here’s an example of a standard-size condom measurement:

  • Length: 7 in

  • Width: 53 mm

Keep in mind that condoms should be about 1-1.5 inches longer than your penis. This is necessary to leave room for some stretch and the condom’s reservoir tip.

To find your size, you need to convert your penis measurements into condom measurements.

Here’s how to do it:

  • To find your ideal condom length in inches: Take your penis length and add 1-1.5 inches.

  • To find your ideal condom width in millimeters: Take your girth in inches and multiply it by 11.

Let’s see an example.

For a penis 5.5 inches long and with a girth of 4.8 inches:

  • 5.5 inch + 1 = 6.5 inches

  • 4.7 inches x 11 = 52mm

In this case, the ideal condom size would be: 6.5-7 inches long and 51-53 mm wide.

A great condom for this person would be Kimono MicroThin. It measures 7.5 inches long and 52 mm wide.

IMPORTANT: You MUST KNOW This When Choosing a Condom Size

The most important measurement for determining condom size is GIRTH. Not length.

Girth determines if the condom will fit snugly and securely. A condom that’s too tight will break. A condom too loose will slip off.

Always choose a condom size based on your girth measurement.

This can be confusing because shorter guys may actually need an L or XL condom if they’re extra girthy.

And, longer guys may need a standard or snug condom if they have below-average girth.

Step 3: Choose the Perfect Condom by Size

Below, we’ll give you a little introduction to each condom size and recommend a condom for your build. Then, in the next section, we’ll explain how to shop for condoms by size.

Remember, choosing a condom is like buying new shoes. The fit is MUCH MORE IMPORTANT than any fancy features like textures and colors.

Choose the right condom size, and you’ll thank us in the morning.

Small Condoms/Snug Condoms

Condom Size:

  • Length: 6” - 7”

  • Width: 51-54 mm (1.75” - 2”)

For Penis Size:

  • Girth: up to 4.7”

  • Length: up to 6.3”

Many people think that smaller size condoms are for the poorly endowed, but that certainly isn’t the case. Most men are around 4.6” in girth and 4.9”-5.1” long, so snug condoms are actually the right size for about 80% of men.

This might explain why so many men wear the wrong size condom. They’re buying a size too big!

Smaller condoms don’t mean you have smaller hardware. They simply guarantee a smoother, snugger fit. They ensure you and your partner can feel more sensation and enjoy sex without the condom getting in the way.

Standard Condoms

Condom Size:

  • Length: 7” - 7.5”

  • Width: 51 - 54 mm (2” - 2.13”)

For Penis Size:

  • Girth: 4.7” - 5.1”

  • Length: 5” - 7”

Standard size condoms are the most popular on the market. They’re also the most common, because most guys fall into this category.

The average man’s length is about 5.1” erect. If you fall into this group, you could go standard or snug depending on your girth.

If your girth is above 4.7” but your length is average, you should use a standard size condom and not a snug size. This is because girth is more important than length when choosing a condom size.

Large Condoms

Condom Size:

  • Length: 7.5” - 8”

  • Width: 54 - 58 mm (2.13” - 2.3”)

For Penis Size:

  • Girth: 5.1” - 5.5”

  • Length: 6.5” - 7.5”

Some men love the feeling of picking up a box of large condoms off the shelf, but the truth is, a very small percentage of men actually need them. Only about 15% of men have a length of 6” or above. Reaching a girth of over 5.1” is also quite rare.

However, this makes life hard for guys who actually need a bigger condom. Most shops don’t carry more than one or two large-size condoms, making it hard to find the right fit.

If you’re a bigger guy, your best bet is to buy condoms online. By shopping online, you can find a lot more variation in condom sizes and styles.

Here are some of the top-rated large condoms.

Extra Large Condoms

Condom Size:

  • Length: 8”+

  • Width: 58+ mm (2.3”+)

For Penis Size:

  • Girth: 5.5”+

  • Length: 7.5”+

Only about 2-3% of men have penises large enough to fit comfortably in these condoms. However, if you’re one of those larger men, you’ll be grateful that there’s a condom for you.

It can be difficult and even painful to have sex in a condom that’s made for a smaller length or girth. If you often feel restricted by your condom or go flaccid during sex due to tightness, you might need to upgrade to an extra-large condom size.

How to Shop for Condoms by Size

We recommended a lot of fantastic condoms above, but you should also know how to identify a condom’s size when you’re shopping online or out in the world. It isn’t always easy.

When you’re in a store, most condoms list their size somewhere on the packaging. You want to look for the width measurement (usually in millimeters). Sometimes, it’s in the small print.

When shopping online, reputable retailers should include sizing information on every condom’s product page.

For example, Condomania lists each condom’s length, width, and thickness on its product page. All you have to do is click a condom to view its specs.

You should also be able to search for condoms by size and measurement.

At Condomania, you can easily search by size category (snug, standard, large, and XL) or by condom width (51 mm, 53 mm, etc.).

Condom Sizes FAQ

Got more questions about condoms? You’ve come to the right place. If your question isn’t answered below, feel free to drop us a line. Our reps are discreet and knowledgeable about all things condoms, sex, and toys.

Does condom size matter?

YES. Condom size is critical. Using the wrong condom will increase your risk of an unwanted pregnancy and contracting an STI. And, it will make sex worse for you and your partner. Only a condom that fits just right will ensure maximum pleasure and protection.

How do you find the best condom size?

To find the best condom size, start by measuring your penis (length and girth). Check the condom size guide above to see how your measurements translate to condom sizes. Then, choose a condom from our list of the best condoms in each size category.

How do you know if a condom is too big or too small?

If your condom feels uncomfortable, you’re probably wearing the wrong size.

Here are some signs that your condom is too big:

  • The condom bunches up during sex

  • The condom comes off during sex

  • The condom looks baggy when it's on

  • You can’t feel much sensation

Here are some signs that your condom is too small:

  • The condom feels too tight

  • The reservoir tip is not visible when the condom is on

  • You lose feeling and go flaccid during sex

  • The condom rolls up your shaft or leaves a distinct impression on your shaft

If you find condoms uncomfortable or have any of the above issues, it’s time to shop for a new condom

How do you find and buy large condoms?

Large condoms are sold in pharmacies and supermarkets and by online retailers like Condomania. When shopping at a brick-and-mortar store, you won’t find many large condoms, as the vast majority of men don’t need them.

To find large condoms in more sizes and styles, browse large size condoms at Condomania

How do you find and buy smaller (snug fit) condoms?

You can find smaller or snug condoms at stores such as pharmacies and supermarkets, as well as online sellers like Condomania. Shops in your local area might not carry many snug condoms.

To find a snugger condom that fits like a glove, choose one from the extensive collection at Condomania.

How do you find and buy standard size condoms?

Standard size condoms are the easiest to find and buy. Most supermarkets, convenience stores, and pharmacies carry them. However, “standard size” doesn’t mean one-size-fits-all. Standard size condoms fall within a size range that includes hundreds of different measurements.

To find the precise size for your build, you need to check the sizing information on each condom you consider. That’s something you can easily do at Condomania. We list condom sizes clearly on each condom product page.

FAQs

Why is finding the right condom size so important?

The right condom size doesn’t just make sex more comfortable—it also makes it safer. A properly fitted condom enhances sensation, helps you stay harder, and prevents slipping or breaking during intercourse. It’s not just about pleasure; it’s about protection against STIs and pregnancy, too.

How do I measure my penis for the perfect condom fit?
  • Length: Use a ruler to measure from the base (near your pubic bone) to the tip while fully erect.
  • Girth: Wrap a measuring tape around the thickest part of your shaft. No tape? Use a string and then measure it with a ruler.
  • Width: Divide your girth measurement by 3.14 to get your width.
Once you’ve got the numbers, compare them to our condom size guide to find your perfect fit!
What if my condom feels too tight or too loose?

Feeling uncomfortable? That’s a red flag!

  • Too Tight: It might feel restrictive, hard to roll down, or cause loss of sensation.
  • Too Loose: It may bunch up, slip off, or feel baggy.
Either way, an ill-fitting condom can ruin the mood—and the protection. Try a size up or down based on your measurements.
Can I use lube with condoms?

Absolutely! Lube can make sex feel even better and reduce friction that might cause a condom to break. Just make sure you’re using the right type of lube for your condom. Water-based and silicone-based lubes are safe for all condoms, while oil-based lubes can damage latex condoms and cause them to tear.
