The Top 7 Condom Brands in the US (We Tested Them All)

The Top 7 Condom Brands in the US (We Tested Them All)

16 minute read

It can be overwhelming to be confronted with dozens of condom brands when you shop for condoms online.

Which are the most reliable? Which ones make sex better?

And which ones make your D feel like it’s locked in a sensory deprivation chamber?

It’s easy to find a condom you can trust by choosing a top brand. After all, top brands are approved by the FDA for safety. And if everyone buys them, they must be good…right?

That’s the theory, at least. But at Condomania, we don’t trust everything we hear. We know that there are tons of great condoms out there.

And the ones you find at the pharmacy aren’t always the best picks for your unique body and kinks.

So, we decided to personally test each of the top condom brands in the US.

We checked the sales numbers to determine which brands Americans are using to go to plow town safely and baby-free.

Here are the most popular condom brands:

1. Trojan

2. Durex

3. LifeStyles

4. Skyn

5. Kimono

6. ONE

7. Trustex

But are they really the best condoms for you? Check out our condom reviews below. We’ve been selling condoms for over 30 years.

In fact, Condomania is America’s first-ever condom shop, so we know a thing or two about rubbers.

We’ll give you the full scoop below on safety, sensation, cost, materials, and our personal (spicy) experiences with each top condom brand.

And if we think there’s a better option, we’ll tell you what to buy instead.

Let the games begin.

Condom Reviews: The 7 Top Condom Brands in the US

A little disclaimer: We didn’t test every condom produced by every brand when creating these reviews.

Instead, we tested the best-sellers from each brand to see what all the hype was about. Find the full story on each brand below.

1. Trojan

Trojan, a made-in-the-USA all-American condom, absolutely dominates the charts in the US. The 100+ year-old condom brand accounts for about  70% of in-person condom sales, leaving every other brand in the dust.

We can’t really dispute Trojan’s dominance. They make a great condom. We’ve tried a bunch of Trojans over the years, but our favorites are:

Trojan Thintensity Condoms

👉Ribbed and comfy

We like Trojan’s thin condoms because they allow you to feel more of your partner’s warmth and moisture (aka more pleasure with every plow).

Trojan Bareskin Raw is one of the thinnest latex condoms ever made. Trojan really nailed the formula here.

As long as it fits you, you should barely feel it at all. Just make sure you have the stamina (spoiler: I didn’t) because you feel everything.

For a more affordable go-to thin condom, Trojan Thintensity is one of my personal favorites. It’s the perfect condom to keep on your bedside table.

Now for the downsides. One of Trojan’s best-sellers is their Magnum condom (a large condom for bigger guys). But in our experience, it’s not even close to the best large-size condom.

Magnums have thick barriers, so you can’t feel as much of your partner during sex. Instead, we recommend the  Titan Large condom.

Trojan is also notorious for never revealing how thin their condoms are, so it’s hard to know the level of sensation you’ll feel without trying it on. Luckily, this doesn’t impact the condom’s safety.

2. Durex

While Durex is #2 in the USA, it claims the top spot globally. Yes, Durex is the world’s most popular condom.

It comes in just as many varieties as Trojan, and it’s just as trustworthy in the sack. In fact, Durex condoms are tested 5x for safety compared to Trojan’s 3x.

Durex has a history almost as long as Trojan. It was first manufactured in London in 1932, just shy of a century ago.

The top-selling Durex condoms are:

Durex Extra Sensitive 'Thin' Condoms

Durex Extra Sensitive 'Thin' Condoms

Climax control

Once again, thin condoms dominate this list. Durex Extra Sensitive Thin condoms have a thin barrier (but not super thin) and extra lube for a super comfy bang.

Our women reviewers loved the extra lube—it makes for a smoother initial entry. Overall, the condom is nothing to write home about, but it’s a solid go-to rubber.

Durex Air is the answer to Trojan Bareskin Raw. It’s Durex’s thinnest condom. While it’s not quite as thin as Raw, it might be perfect for guys who love an ultra-thin condom but not quite as thin as Raw.

Durex Air pushed the boundaries of thinness while giving me more control over my climax. Can’t complain there.

On the flip side, there’s Durex Performax Intense. This is a climax control condom, so it’s thicker than standard condoms and contains special numbing lube.

I’m wary of numbing lube, but our other reviewers found this to be the best climax-control condom on the market today.

The downsides of Durex? You won’t find a huge selection in the US. And there are very few options at most stores. If you want a bigger selection of Durex condoms,  grab them at Condomania  (for a sweet price).

3. LifeStyles

Another global powerhouse. LifeStyles is an Australian brand of condoms that’s been in the game since 1905. Yep, they’re even older than Trojan.

LifeStyles has some of the best safety ratings in the world. When  Consumer Reports tested hundreds of condoms for safety, only seven condoms got a perfect score.

Two were from LifeStyles (LifeStyles Ultra Sensitive Lubricated and LifeStyles Warming Pleasure).

LifeStyles condoms are also affordable. If you’re looking for a reliable condom on a budget, LifeStyles is your best bet.

The most popular LifeStyles condoms are:

LifeStyles Ultra-thin aren’t as thin as the ultra-thin condoms by Durex and Trojan (Raw and Air).

They measure .05 mm thick (which is still pretty darn thin), but Lifestyles doesn’t match the competition here.

If you’re looking for the thinnest latex condom, you might want to try a different brand. However, LifeStyles Ultra-Thin are considerably cheaper than those alternatives.

LifeStyles Snugger Fit is a stand-out condom. If you need a smaller condom, this is one of the best on the market. It’s also one of the best-reviewed on any site (including Condomania).

Guys who need a slimmer condom will finally get the confident fit they need—no bunching or slipping here.

4. SKYN

SKYN is a brand of non-latex condoms manufactured by LifeStyles (though it doesn’t sport the LifeStyles brand).

Made from polyisoprene, SKYN condoms are slightly thicker than latex but transfer heat much more effectively. The result is a condom that feels like nothing’s there.

Before SKYN, non-latex condoms were primarily used by people with latex allergies. But SKYN changed all that. It’s an excellent condom, regardless of the material.

SKYN Elite, the thin condom in the SKYN lineup, is my all-time favorite condom. And the testing I did while making this list didn’t change that.

SKYN Elite is ridiculously comfortable, and the difference in sensation is noticeable for both partners. This condom actually makes sex better, which is not true of most condoms.

If you’re looking for a new condom,  give it a try now. You won’t regret it.

I’ve already shared my feelings on Skyn Elite. The same goes for Skyn and Skyn Large. The benefits of all Skyn condoms come from the material—polyisoprene.

You have no idea how much of a game-changer it is to feel more of your partner’s natural heat. It makes the condom barrier vanish.

According to the author of this article and thousands of online condom reviews, Skyn is the king of the non-latex condom market.

5. Kimono

Kimono is America’s original ultra-thin condom. Manufactured by Mayer Labs, the Kimono MicroThin condom was one of the first condoms to make people realize that sex with a condom could feel amazing.

Today, ultra-thin condoms are made by most condom brands (check out our picks for the top ultra-thin condoms here  ), but Kimono is still one of the most popular.

These are the best-selling Kimono condoms in the US:

Kimono MicroThin Condoms

You may not have heard of Kimono before, and that’s because it's a premium condom brand. You won’t find them hanging out on the shelf of a convenience store.

Kimono condoms are tested for safety more rigorously than other brands, and they are made with premium latex for extra comfort. It kind of feels like your D is wearing a silky soft kimono.

Kimono’s ultra-thin condoms (MicroThin and MicroThin Plus) are both solid picks if you’re looking for more sensation from a latex condom.

At .045 mm and .044 mm thin, respectively, these are seriously thin condoms—about the thinnest latex condoms you can buy.

Kimono MicroThin Plus got high marks from our reviewers. They especially loved the premium Aqua Lube, which lasts longer than the lube that comes standard on most condoms.

If you’re into ribbed or textured condoms, Kimono MicroThin Ribbed + Sensi-Dots is one of the all-time greats. Most textured condoms are thicker, which limits sensation.

But Kimono’s condom is thinner than the average condom, and it has pronounced textures your partner can actually feel.

It’s hard to find a condom that’s both super strong and super thin. If you want to feel more sensation and maintain your confidence in your condom, buy a Kimono condom.

6. ONE

ONE is the fastest-growing brand of condoms in the US. Some may attribute ONE's growth to the colorful art on its condom wrappers.

But the truth is, ONE makes a safe and comfortable condom at a very attractive price.

ONE is also known for making a huge variety of condom styles, so you can choose from a bunch of condom sizes, shapes, flavors, textures, and a lot more.

These are ONE's best-selling condoms in America:

ONE Classic Select Lubricated Condoms

ONE Classic Select Lubricated Condoms

According to our reviewers, the most exceptional One condom is One Super Studs. The studs on this condom are HUGE.

This can expand your bedroom horizons considerably, especially when it comes to G-spot and anal stimulation. The only issue is that, like most textured condoms, it’s quite thick.

One’s Classic Select condoms were pretty standard. They were safe and effective but not life-changing. For a classic go-to condom, we prefer  Trojan Thintensity.

Flavor Waves, on the other hand, are some of the tastiest flavored condoms out there. They can really spice up oral sex, and One offers interesting flavors like mint chocolate and bubblegum.

One condoms are getting more popular because they align with their customers' values. They’re vegan and non-GMO, and One does loads of charity work and outreach to promote safe sex.

One is also on the cutting edge of condom tech—they just got  FDA approval for the first condom made specifically for anal sex.

While these condoms may not be our personal favorites, they are worth keeping on your shopping list.

7. Trustex

Trustex is a condom brand specializing in flavored and colored condoms. In fact, it’s the world’s leading flavored condom brand.

But there’s another big reason that Trustex condoms made this list of America’s favorite condom brands—they’re super affordable.

A box of 12 Trustex condoms costs about 50% less than a box of 12 Durex or Trojan condoms. And, Trustex has the same safety rating and testing standards as Trojan.

While Trustex doesn’t have the variety or features of bigger brands, it’s a totally reliable manufacturer if you need rubbers on a budget.

These are the best-selling Trustex condoms in the US:

What else can we say about Trustex? We weren’t wowed by their top condoms, but we don’t have any complaints either.

If you’re looking for a cheaper condom that will keep you safe, Trustex Natural Lubricated is a good option.

Although, for a budget option, we prefer  Crown Skinless Skin  —it’s a thinner condom at a similar price point.

We were impressed by Trustex’s flavors like vanilla ice cream, cola, and mint.

We preferred One’s more exotic flavor lineup, but if you’re into basic fruit flavors and a few others, Trustex can up your oral game.

Some Condom Hidden Gems

The 7 brands on this list are America’s top condom picks…but that doesn’t mean they have a monopoly on making quality condoms.

At Condomania, finding the best condoms is literally our job. So, we wanted to recommend a few more of our favorite condom brands. These might not be the most popular in the nation, but they deserve to be.

👉 Okamoto: Japan’s #1 condom brand, Okamoto makes some epically thin condoms—thinner than anything on the list above.

Okamoto condoms like  Wink are just .04mm thin, which is about 10% thinner than even the ultra-thin condoms by Trojan and Kimono.

👉 Hex: Hex is a premium condom line by LELO, one of the most respected sex toy manufacturers. Hex is a new brand, which may explain why it’s not super popular yet, but there’s loads of potential here.

The condoms are made of hexagonal plates that form-fit to your D. This makes the condom feel like a part of you. Hex is also ultra-thin, which further contributes to its nothing’s-there sensation.

👉 Unique: Unique are non-latex condoms made from a strong yet incredibly thin material called polyethylene resin.

At .015mm thin, they’re the thinnest condoms ever made—about 3x thinner than the thinnest ultra-thin latex condoms.

They’re so thin you need to use a special tab to pull them over your peen. Unique condoms aren’t cheap, but they deliver the pinnacle of sensation.

Looking for more hidden gems? Check out our list of the best condoms you’ve never heard of.

Which Condom Brand is Right for You?

Now that you’ve seen the top condom brands in the US, it’s time to make a choice. Here’s a little guide to help you out.

If you feel more confident with a big brand…

Go with  Trojan or Durex. These condoms have the same FDA approval and safety record as the other condoms on this list, but some people just feel more confident using a condom by a global leader.

Your confidence level is important in bed, so do what makes you feel comfortable.

If you want to maximize sensation…

Get an ultra-thin condom like  Kimono MicroThin Plus or  Trojan Bareskin Raw. Or, go for a non-latex condom like  Skyn Elite  (my personal favorite) or  Unique Pull.

All of these condoms will let you feel more of your partner’s heat and moisture, which translates to more pleasure.

Oh, and your partner will also be able to feel more heat from your meat, so they’ll enjoy sex more, too.

If you want an affordable condom…

Trustex and  Lifestyles make affordable condoms that are just as reliable as other brands. For our money, we prefer LifeStyles condoms.

But if you’re looking for flavors and colors, you should choose Trustex. If you want a premium experience…

Check out  Kimono condoms or Hex condoms. They’re made with higher-quality latex and lube, so you’ll notice more comfort and a more confident fit.

For a few more bucks, you can have better sex with a nicer condom. If you can afford it, it’s worth every penny.

If you want to try something new…

Buy a variety pack from one of the top brands. You’ll get the chance to try a bunch of their most popular condoms.

This is the easiest way to find your new favorite rubber or to add some variety to your sex life. Here are a few variety packs we love:

👉 SKYN Selection

👉 Durex Pleasure Pack

👉 Kimono Sheer Variety Pack

👉 Trojan All the Feels
